The night of the terrible disaster when A British-owned cross-channel ferry
the 'Herald of Free Enterprise' left Zeebrugge, Belgium, with its bow doors
open; it capsized, killing over 180 passengers.
Piglet was in the angling club at Eastbourne as finance chairman at about 10.30 two maroons went off to launch the Eastbourne lifeboat to assist in another rescue along the coast.
This was the first time that piglet went to the lifeboat station to offer his assistance,
